Day 42 - false alarms

Today at the camp, there was a waterfront drill, but us counsellors weren't notified that it was a just a drill. So frantically as the alarm sounded all of us ran to the waterfront, as the staff dove into the water searching for a potentially missing person. My heart sunk into my stomach and my legs went to jelly. The thought of losing one of my closest friends, campers or counsellors was terrifying. As I reflected tonight I got to thinking. Having an alarm like that, or of any for that matter, really is such a blessing. The old saying goes, 'you don't know what you have until it's gone.' But, at times like these, you have an opportunity to realise what you have, without losing it. And though these moments are sometimes terrifying, they are the universe's way of shaking some sense into you. So easily do we get preoccupied with ourselves that we forget the good things in our lives; our loved ones. And having these false moments of panic are such blessings, because they force us to reflect on the things we do have.
