Day 29 - listening ears

You meet a lot of people, and a handful will only care about what they have to say and not really blink at your two cents. This is rather discourteous, you could spend hours with these people and really feel completely unaffected. Which is fine, because we're not meant to be everything to everyone. But I think it's important to recognize, at these points especially, those people who really do value your opinion. Having friends who call me for advice, friends who get a kick out of my rants and genuinely enjoy listening is a really touching. Because one of the first few lessons one should learn when growing up is that you're not going to please everyone and not everyone is going to care about what you have to say or think. But, there are those few people in your life, that do value you input. And these are the people who in the end, do need you most, and vice versa. Sometimes we don't even need advice, we just need to vent. Words can be completely meaningless, but they are important, its our way of releasing something that's bottled up inside ourselves into the universe. And having that readily accepted is really a gift to be grateful for. And it's not like you need a lot of people to receive your message, sometimes all you need is one good listening ear. And for that I'm so thankful to have as many people who do listen, and of course I listen to as well.
