Day 70 - rejection

This may sound odd, and slightly unbelievable, I know, but rejection is something that I've come to really appreciate lately; both on my own accounts and other's experiences. When we are rejected there is a tendency to take it personally. We can easily assume we've done something wrong, that something we did may not have been up to par, etc. But the fact of the matter is that if this happens a great lesson can be learned, and that is to truly understand your own uniqueness. After various forms of rejection by opposite sexes, social groups, academic groups etc., you can begin to understand not what is wrong with you, but rather what should be celebrated. And when you look at it this way it is both humbling and validating. Things are incompatible mostly because of fundamental differences in values. When we are rejected by someone or something, it's important to see how that is a matter a difference between values. And not one person's values are more valid than the other, they're just different. So, although the act seems harsh, it can really be looked at as a blessing that forces us to hold a mirror to what we hold important.
