Today I got a phone call from a woman who I messaged a few days ago about helping me out with some bureaucratic stuff I needed to clear for some research I'm doing. I left the message assuming I'd get lost in the system and that at some point I'd have to hassle someone in order to get anything done. Yet another reminder that assumptions fail you. Not only did this woman call me back, but she was more than helpful, understanding and willing to push aside some of the bureaucratic crap I had to deal with. People surprise you sometimes, and it's best to give them the chance before you assume what might come of a situation.
