Sometimes we extend ourselves to people selflessly not expecting a thank-you in return. These are acts of sincere compassion. Now when we genuinely care about a person's well being, and help them without worrying about receiving anything back, a thank you really is a thing to be cherished. A thank-you is a gift that you give someone. Because it communicates to a person that you consciously cherish something they have given to you. And I really think a selfless act is better reciprocated with a thank-you rather than a returned gesture. Why? Well, there's some power to someone extending themselves for your well being, because they genuinely care. And I think returning the favour whether it be through obligation or guilt weakens that gesture. The balance of an action-reaction like someone saying a sincere thank-you I think is quite beautiful.
